List of shares is now back in operation

Our list of available shares is now working correctly with links to individual boats from the boat name in the list. Occasionally this may result in an error on the broker's site but, if it does, just use the instructions or menus on that site to find the boat you're interested in.

In some cases, the link may take you to a page on the broker's site where you need to scroll down to find what you're looking for.

Technical problem with the list of shares currently on offer

There is a technical problem preventing a link on our list shares currently available from working correctly.  We're trying to sort this out at the moment.

The affected link is on the boat name so, until we've fixed it, just click on the broker logo and then search for the boat on the broker's site. Until the problem is resolved, clicking on a boat name in the list will show an error message.

 

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause - and many thanks to the prospective owner who told us about it.

Shares list back to normal

The technical problem with our shares list has now been resolved and the list can be seen at https://boatshare4u.co.uk/searchforshares.asp.

Currently there are nearly 150 share on offer on the four main brokerage sites that we monitor - BCBM, boatshare.co.uk (that's not us!), Carefree Cruising and Ownashare.  We don't sell shares, but all the details of the share on offer can be found by clicking on the boat name in our list.

I would like to thank Ian, owner of a share in Silhouette - the one managed by Carefree Cruising.  Ian told me that the shares for sale in Silhouette were not showing in our list of available shares.  (There are no shares currently available in the self-managed, ex-ownerships Silhouette.)

I followed this up and found that there was a faulty link in our database, which I've now corrected, so that the Silhouette shares are shown in our list. 

I try to keep our list of curently available shares as accurate as possible so, if you have a share for sale, please do check the list to check that we've got it right and the link to the share details is working OK. 

Our list is compiled from details advertised by BCBM, boatshare.co.uk, Carefree Cruising and Ownashare.  We monitor these sites as we have found them to be reliable - particullarly in removing or flagging shares that have been sold.  Shares do appear on other sites from time to time, but we have found that shares on them can still be advertised months after they have been sold.

If you are looking for a share, please note that we don't sell shares so just click on the boat name in our list to find the boat details and who is offering the share for sale.

More choice than ever

Having just completed an update of our list of available shares, I think there is now more choice than ever with some 138 shares on offer with prices ranging from just £1 to £19,750.

Shared ownerhip remains the most cost effective option for anyone wanting to spend time cruising the canals each year.

Plenty to choose from

It's been a bit longer than usual since I updated our list of available shares - mainly because I had to spend a short time in hospital and it's taking a while to get back to normal.

So I've just completed a full update and our list currently shows 130 shares on offer.  There is an enormous range to choose from, with a 1/24th share in a 58ft narrowboat from as little as £200 to a 1/3rd share in a 62ft boat for £18,000.

For prospective owners wanting to start with a smaller share (1/24th or 4%) there are plenty on offer - and for those wanting to take their canal holidays in the school summer holidays, more than 10% of the shares on offer are school holiday ones.

Our list can be filtered in many ways and then sorted - so enjoy your search.  I hope you find just what you're looking for.

I've just completed a full update of our list of available narrowboat shares and the offering is now back up to pre-Covid levels, with 121 shares on offer.

Oakmere is a 4-berth tug type boat with a trad stern, with a share on offer for £6,250.
 The boat is managed for the owning syndicate by BCBM

 

There's plenty of choice with asking prices ranging from £1 to £18,000.  The vast majority of shared boats are around 58-60ft long and have a semi-trad stern, but lengths of boats which currently have shares available range from 37 to 66ft.  There are boats with cruiser and trad sterns also on offer including one tug type boat.
