Autumn Boat Share Show cancelled

It has proved impractical to go ahead with the 2020 Autumn Boat Share Show at Overwater, despite the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

The Show normally runs alongside the RNLI event, which has also been cancelled, and this meant that the shared facilities such as toilets and catering would not be availble either.

The management companies - who organise the event - report that share sales are very strong at the moment and that no boats have booked in for the Show.  Only 2 of the shared ownership narrowboats based at Overwater, have a share available.

All being well - and assuming there are no further restrictions in place - there will be a Spring Boat Share Show at Dunchurch Pools Marina next year.  No date has yet been announced.

On the move again

As lockdown eases and people are again allowed to go boating, it looks as though the shares market is opening up again.  We have picked up a number of recent changes to shares on offer indicating that share sales are getting under way again.

The full list of currently available shares from the five main advertising and brokerage websites is here.

Hopefully, the lockdown measures can continue to be eased so that we will be able to meet up again at the Autumn Boat Share Show at Overwater on 12th & 13th September.

Stay safe!

Virtual Boat Share Show

It's less than two weeks to when we should be having the National Boat Share Show at Dunchurch Pools, but we can't have a real live Show because of this Covid-19 virus and all the restrictions that apply.

So we've set up a Virtual Boat Share Show.  It includes links to all the shares currently available (just over 140 on 7th April) and to details of the boats plus the vendor or broker for each share.  It's open now and is available 24/7 every day of the year.

At the real live Show, you would have been able to visit us on the Welcome Desk and have a chat about anything to do with shared ownership.  You can now do the same via Skype or WhatsApp - just contact us to fix a time by emailing andrew@boatshare4u.co.uk or phoning 01452 3452277.

We hope you find it useful.  Enjoy the Show!

Boat Share Show cancelled

I have just heard the disappointing news that the National Boat Share Show due to be held on 18th & 19th of next month has had to be cancelled due to the precautions being taken over the Covid-19 virus.

Clearly, with restrictions on travel and public gatherings, it would be impossible to continue and to do so would be putting people at unnecessary risk.

Let's hope that the restrictions will have been lifted in time for the Autumn Boat Share Show at Overwater on 12th &13th September - and that we will see you there!

Refreshments at the Boat Share Show

I've just heard that the J18 Burger Van will again be providing refreshments for this year's National Boat Share Show.  This is great news as you can be assured of excellent value for money.  The full breakfast is strongly recommended if you're going to be 'on duty' on a boat or stand all day.

Shearwater cruising in for Show

The oldest boat so far confirmed as attending the National Boat Share Show at Dunchurch Pools Marina on 18th & 19th April is Shearwater.

Originally built for Ownerships, Shearwater was launched in 1998 - but you would never know from looking at her, as she had a full repaint over the winter of 2014/15.  She also had new carpet and furnishings in 2016 and also now boasts a Beta Marine 38 engine.

A 58ft, semi-trad narrowboat, Shearwater has a mid galley. The saloon is nearest the bow, followed by the dinette that converts to a double bed. Nearest the stern is the main bedroom with an en suite toilet, with the bathroom sitting between the galley and the main bedroom.  She is managed for her owners by Ownashare Cruising and - like all ex-Ownerships boats, her syndicate uses the list system for choosing weeks on board.

She currently has a full 1/12th share on offer at the reduced price of £995.

Cruiser stern boat joins Show line-up

The first cruiser stern boat to join the line-up for this year's National Boat Share Show at Dunchurch Pools is Minuet.

Managed for her owners by Ownashare Cruising, Minuet is a 54ft, 4 berth narrowboat launched in 2011.  Currently based at Dunchurch Pools Marina, Minuet is powered by a Nanni diesel engine.  Owners use the popular 'list' system to book the weeks they have on board.  The 'list' system is used by just over half of all shared ownership syndicates.

The National Boat Share Show this year is on Saturday & Sunday 18th & 19th April.  The Show opens at 10am on both days, closing at 5pm on the Saturday and 4pm on the Sunday. Admission and car parking are free.

The full address of the Marina is Dunchurch Pools Marina, Onley CV23 8AN.  The location can be found on Google Maps, although the actual marina does not show up on the map - only in the satellite view.

A 1/12th share in Minuet is currently on offer for £2,300.

Cotonwood joins Show line-up

I've now heard that Cotonwood has been confirmed as attending the National Boat Share Show at Dunchurch Pools Marina on the weekend of 18th & 19th April.

Cotonwood is a 58ft narrowboat launched in 2007, managed for her owners by BCBM.  Originally built for Ownerships, she has 6 berths, a semi-trad stern and a Nanni 1.9 engine.

She is configured with a forward saloon and a rear galley adjoining the dinette.  Cotonwood is a pet friendly boat and a no smoking rule.

The Boat Share Show opens at 10am on both days, closing at 5pm on the Saturday and 4pm on the Sunday.  Car parking and admission are free.

First boat booked in for Boat Share Show

Apperley is the first boat to be confirmed as attending the Boat Share Sow at Dunchurch Pools Marina on Saturday and Sunday 18th & 19th April.  The Show opens at 10am each day.  Car parking and admission are free.

Apperley is a 58ft, 6-berth, semi-trad boat
with shares on offer from just £500.
Currently moored at Braunston Marina,
she is managed for her owners by BCBM.
Apperley is a 6-berth, semi-trad, ex-Ownerships boat now managed for the owners' syndicate by BCBM.  She was launched in 2004 and has a Beta Marine 43 engine.  She has a saloon and dinette towards the bow, a mid-galley and main bedroom with ensuite nearest the stern.

There are 12 full shares in the syndicate - on offer from £500 - and she is currently moored at Braunston Marina

There is no better way of finding out what shared ownership can offer than attending a Boat Share Show. It not only gives the opportunity to look over a variety of different boats, but also to talk to existing owners on board to answer your questions and tell you about their experiences of shared ownership.

Pippa and I will be at the Show manning the Welcome Desk - so do call in and see us on your way to visit the boats and talk to the management companies. If you're just trying to find out about how shared ownership gives you more boating for your holiday pounds, we are a good first port of call - we don't sell anything but we have lots of experience and know-how.

Slipstream moves on

I've had a note from Peter Walker on behalf of the syndicate to let me know that Slipstream has been sold and is no longer a "shared boat"

She has been bought by Kelly Jones and her brother Gary pictured here (with dog) at Wigrams Turn after the handover.

Kelly and Gary will live on Slipstream with a continuous cruising licence.  Kelly  is an experienced boater.  She makes jewellery for a living and will work onboard.  Gary is an upholsterer and has already got plans for Slipstream’s upholstery.
